(Ep. 46) #BNCPod “The Legend of Kawhi”

It’s been a long time, we shouldn’t have left you, without a strong pod to beef to. (I mean I would have said argue to, but that wouldn’t have fit.) What’s going on family, welcome to episode 46 of The Beer N’ Chicken Podcast, with the homies Spann and Cliff bringing you some sports hot take shenanigans. It’s been a while so your boys will be doing some catching up, and then we hop into some of the sports hot topics of the moment.

Of course you know we’ll be diving into these NBA Finals. A Finals series that at the time of this recording has the Toronto Raptors leading 3-1, and on the cusp of the first ever NBA Championship in franchise history after 24 years of existence. Shout out to everybody who remembers an NBA with no Canadian teams. But with these NBA Finals there has been a little drama. Outside of whether or not Kevin Durant will make a comeback by game 5, and will it be enough, Warriors minority owner Mark Stevens is being pressured to sell his stake in the team after pushing Raptors Point Guard Kyle Lowry, while making a play on the ball out of bounds. So the questions we’ll be asking is, should he be forced to sell his stake in the team, and also the re-emerging discussion about fan interaction with players during, and surrounding the games.

Speaking of owners. Warriors Forward Draymond Green has been making waves after an appearance on the HBO show The Shop hosted by LeBron James, where he spoke about his being uncomfortable with the term “owner” being used in league that consist mostly of black players. One owner in particular, the Dallas Maverick’s Mark Cuban has taken exception to the comparison, and has called on Draymond Green to apologize. But should he?

As Kwahi Leonard has this Raptors team on the verge of taking the chip, we’re learning more and more about this dude as a person. You’re seeing him do more post game interviews, you’re hearing stories about him while he was a college player at San Diego State. He’s starting to become an urban legend right before our eyes. But two questions remain, had LeBron James decided to stay in the East, do we get to see Kawhi flourish in these NBA Finals? And secondly is it Kawhi, not Kevin Durant who’s next up as the best player in the world? We’ll get into those topics and of course, you know ya boys have to finish it off with our Wing It portion of the show. So kick back, relax, get yourself a Four Loko, and a 2 piece white from one of your favorite fish and chicken joint, and kick it with your boys right here on The Beer N’ Chicken Podcast!

(Ep. 45) #BNCPod “Those Damn Unwritten Rules”

We’re back with another episode of Beer N’ Chicken, and we’re kicking off the show with a little baseball. Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Alexander was suspended for 1 game for his role in a bench clearing incident between the White Sox and Kansas City Royals. But his biggest crime seems to be going against some of the “unwritten rules” in baseball. And we’re going to dive into some of those unwritten rules, and whether or not they should be done away with, or did Tim Alexander get exactly what he deserved?

Then we’re off to the NBA as the postseason is under way, some teams who didn’t make it into the playoffs are making news in other ways. One of those teams are the New Orleans Pelicans, and their star Center, Anthony Davis. Many see his trade demand in the middle of the season as one of the reasons their season went off the rails, and contributed to the implosion that happened with the Los Angeles Lakers. But the newly appointed President Of Basketball Operations for the Pelicans seems to believe that Anthony Davis can be convinced to stay in The Big Easy? Does he have a point, or has he been tipping into the bars of Bourbon Street to hard already?

And while we’re talking basketball, the Oklahoma Thunder are on the brink of elimination at the hands of the Portland Trail Blazers. And while the Thunder have been getting a lot of attention for their treatment of the media and the perceived beefs they have with certain Portland players, the Trail Blazers have been plugging away and seem to be poised to move on the the next round. Could this be yet another example of not letting the distractions get in the way of playing the game? And if so, are Russell Westbrook’s antics becoming a huge distraction for his Oklahoma City Thunder team?

We’re going to cover all of that and of course, you guys know we have to Wing It to close out the show. So kick back with some Honey Barbecue Wings, and a Bell’s Oberon and chop it up with your boys right here on The Beer N’ Chicken Podcast!

(Ep. 44) #BNCPod “Poof, He’s Gone!”

Back like we never left, because we weren’t supposed to! On episode 44 of The Beer N’ Chicken Podcast, the fellas chop it up about why in the hell it hasn’t been a show in two weeks! (It’s all Spann’s fault by the way.) But then we get right back to the shenanigans. As the NBA Regular season has come to a close, we revisit our pre-season predictions for what we expected to happen for the year, and boy where there a lot of surprises. We’ll then give our thoughts on what happened with the sudden departure of Magic Johnson from the Los Angeles Lakers, and what this could mean for LeBron James’ chances to win another championship before it’s time for him to hang it up. And then we’ll Wing It right on outta here! So get yourself some Hot Wings, some Ranch Dressing, and some Summer Shandy, and kick it with the fellas right here on The Beer N’ Chicken Podcast!

(Ep. 43) #BNCPod “Break The Bank, But At What Cost?”

The #BNCPod boys are back with some more brews, and more sports talk hot takes, and we have a special guest on the show with us tonight, as the homie Stacy drops in on the Beer N’ Chicken crew to give us some of his thoughts on the sports topics of the day. We hop right into it as Mike Trout re-signs with the Los Angeles Angels to the tune of… wait for it… $426.5 MILLION! Is the amount of money paid to these players making it harder for the fan base to root for and connect with them? We’ll break that whole topic down. The NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament is going on as we speak, and every year, this tournament produces or introduces us to a player who’s having his major coming out party. From Cassius Winston at Michigan State to Ja Morant at Murray State, which of these players are we really going to see more of in the coming years? We then move to the hardwood as a fan paid nearly $7K to see LeBron James play against Giannis Antetokounmpo. Only thing is, neither one of them played in the game? It was a late season game where many NBA stars are becoming more and more accustomed to resting and sitting games out in preparation for the playoffs, but is the practice of resting these stars in these late season games a ripoff to the paying public? Also in NBA news, The Los Angeles Lakers are going to miss the NBA Playoffs for the 6th straight season. This is despite having LeBron James on the team, so the question has to be asked, who is most responsible for the Los Angeles Lakers not making the playoffs THIS season? And of course, we’ll all be wrapping up up our sports week with the Wing It portion of the show. So grab that 2 piece white, with mild sauce, and an Old Style brew, and kick it with your fellas tonight, right here on The Beer N’ Chicken Podcast!

(Ep. 42) #BNCPod “Fan Jealousies”

On episode 42 of #BNCPod it’s ALL BASKETBALL tonight. And we get right into it with Josh Smith deciding to join Ice Cube’s Big 3 Basketball league, despite the Detroit Pistons still paying him to the tune of $5.3 Million dollars this season. Got to love those guaranteed contracts don’t you?! Then we come back to the tried and true argument over whether or not Michael Jordan is the GOAT in the sport of basketball. Robert Parish, former center for the great Boston Celtics team, and one year teammate of Michael Jordan’s Championship Chicago Bulls teams doesn’t think he is. He doesn’t even believe that Jordan is in the top 3! So we’ll unpack that until the bag is all the way empty and the clothes are in the hotel drawers! And finally, we examine the exchange between Oklahoma City guard Russell Westbrook, and Utah Jazz fan Shane Keisel, that led to the fan being banned for life from ever attending another Jazz game. We’ll talk about why the relationship with the players and some of the fans go beyond the game, and start to become downright hostile. And of course we wrap it all up with our Wing It portion of the show. So kick back, grab yourself one of Walt’s favorite Bud Light Oranges and some barbecue wings, and kick it with your boys. (Ep. 41) #BNCPod “Up In Smoke?”

On episode 41 of #BNCPod the fellas are back with more talk about and around the games. Today we’ll be talking about LeBron James, the greatest player of his generation is poised to miss the playoffs for the first time since the 04-05 NBA season? What will these NBA Playoffs look like without him in them, and could we be looking at LeBron’s stint with the Lakers the same way we look at Michael Jordan’s two years with the Washington Wizards? We then move on to the NFL as Antonio Brown has been dealt from the Pittsburgh Steelers, to the Oakland Raiders. Who got the better of this deal, and do the fellas believe that Brown will be a good fit in the Silver and Black? Finally, we talk about David Irving. Irving, the Dallas Cowboys Defensive Tackle was suspended by the league for his third violation of their substance abuse policy. Rather than give up the weed, he chose to give up his career in the most millennial of ways. He announced it on Instagram while smoking a joint! But while making his video, he also spoke about the drugs that the NFL allows for their players to take to deal with pain. Could Irving be smarter than his critics are giving him credit for? And finally we close out the show with Wing It segment, so grab yourself some hot wings, some bleu cheese, and a Blue Moon, and come kick it with your boys right here on The Beer N’ Chicken Podcast!

(Ep. 40) #BNCPod “The Fix Was In?”

After a week off the #BNCPod fellas are back for another hour of spirited sports talk. We kick things off like we normally do, we catch up with each other and find out what each has been up to over the past couple of weeks. Then we hop right into it as Tim Donaghy, the disgraced former NBA Referee turned back up in the sports news as ESPN comes out with a report that me have in fact fixed NBA games, despite the NBA itself saying that never happened. And with the way Cliff has been all over the refs for the past year, y’all know he’s chomping at the bit to get on this one. Speaking of the NBA, former point guard Mike Bibby has been let go as head coach of a high school basketball team, as an investigation has been opened into him on whether or not he sexually assaulted a teacher at the school. Is Mike Bibby the next man down in the #MeToo era? We then switch it up and head to the NFL, the Pittsburgh Steelers to be exact, as Antonio Brown gave an interview to ESPN to talk about his position with the team. As crazy as Antonio Brown looks, could he actually be the sane one in the situation? For all of the talk of him disrupting that team, could he just be the convenient scapegoat in all of this? We’ll discuss all of that, and of course, we’re going to WING IT to close out the show. So grab some wing flats and some Coronas and kick with your boys right here on The Beer N’ Chicken Podcast!

(Ep. 39) #BNCPod “Is The Boycott Over?

On episode 39 of #BNCPod the fellas are back with the sports talk shenanigans. We start out the show with our thoughts on the NBA All-Star weekend festivities. Did the game live up to the hype? Is it time to do away with the skills competition, and how long can the dunk contest survive without the stars putting their hats in the ring? We stay in the basketball lane a little longer as Scottie Pippen was on ESPN and he made some eyebrow raising comments about LeBron’s clutch factor? Is there any truth to what Scottie Pippen is saying, or could Scottie be out to lunch on this one? And later in the show, we switch gears to the gridiron, as news broke earlier in the week, that the NFL had reached a settlement agreement with Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid concerning alleged collusion by their teams to keep Colin Kaepernick out of the NFL. Has the NFL just essentially admitted that they DID in fact collude to keep him out of the league without saying so? And now that this issue has reached a settlement, will Colin Kaepernick supporters begin watching the game of NFL football again? We’ll discuss these topics, and of course, we’re going to Wing It on out of here with out hot takes for the week. So pull up a Berry Weiss, and some Honey Barbecue Wings and kick it with the fellas right here on The Beer N’ Chicken Podcast!
