R. Kelly

(Ep. 236) #TSRP “Smoketh Thou Shalt Haveth”

On episode 236 of #TSRP we’re bringing the show live to Facebook, and we hop right In The News, as Empire star Jussie Smollett was assaulted in Chicago allegedly by a couple of purported Trump supporters. His assault is being investigated as a “possible” hate crime. R. Kelly is now under investigation by the F.B.I. for possible sex trafficking, and Kamala Harris has announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination for President. And have scientist finally cracked the code on a cure for Cancer? an Israeli pharmaceutical company is saying they are within a year of doing it. Is it too good to be true? Then we’re off to Blue Blazes, as Tarji P. Henson is catching some heat over an Instagram post that many interpreted as a defense of R. Kelly. She’s since come out and addressed the issue, but is she playing us all for fools? Nick Cannon was trending over the social media streets after a clip from his podcast started circulating about his idea of why black men pursue white women, and ooo wee, it’s a doozy And Terry Crews is sick of the jokes, and he rhetorically asked comedian DL Hughley should he smack him over statements he’s made concerning Crews being the victim of sexual assault. DL responded on his radio show, but his response sounds quite familiar, we’ll delve into why. We move on to Cheaper To Keep Her, as Detroit Tigers 1st Baseman is ordered to pay his mistress and mother of 2 of his children over $20K a month in Child Support. Then we’re off to Proud To Be An American as protesters in Huntington Woods Michigan continue to protest the existence of Drag Queen Story Time at the library. Many of whom don’t even live in Huntington Woods. And apparently, Americans are not having enough babies to replace themselves, we’ll examine why that could be, and then we wrap up the show with our AssHat & Champ of The Week. So let’s get right to it with the Real Talk right here on The Spann Report!

(Ep. 235) #TSRP “Watch Whiteness Work”

On episode 235 of #TSRP we have our very first guest of 2019! Friend of the show and the brains behind the Shane Paul Neil Writes Podcast, it’s the homie Shane Paul Neil! Listen in as Spann, and Shane get In The News as R. Kelly’s Chicago studio is shut down after a judge’s order. The MAGA hat wearing teen seen on the viral video harassing a Native American Vietnam Veteran may be going to visit Trump in the White House, and the mother of an AKA Pledge is suing the historically black sorority for wrongful death after her daughter commits suicide. We then move on to Blue Blazes, as some idiot took the Bird Box Challenge on the road. A woman riding a cart in Walmart brings a new meaning to the saying “Once You Pop, You Can’t Stop.” And conservatives across America lost their collective minds after a Gillette ad addressing Toxic Masculinity hit the airwaves. Then it’s time for another edition of Cheaper To Keep Her as Detroit Tiger Slugger Miguel Cabrera got hit with a Child Support order that’s sure to anger the MRA’s all across the country. And in Proud To Be An American, Gladys Knight is tired of y’all giving her grief about singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl this year. A sorority at the University of Oklahoma expels one of it’s members after she’s seen on video in blackface. And a racist in Vermont showed up at a press conference to harass a black legislator after that state’s Attorney General announced that he would not file charges of stalking against the culprit. And of course we wrap it all up with our AssHat & Champ of The Week announcements. So let’s get to it, right here right now, TONIGHT here on The Spann Report!

(Episode 234) #TSRP “8 Years In”

Yooooo! It’s the 8th Anniversary of The Spann Report! On January 8th of 2011, the very first episode of #TSRP was uploaded into Podomatic, and ya man Spann dipped his feet into these podcasting waters, and hasn’t looked back! So it would be apropos if we do a little reflecting on how far we’ve come along the way. From Spann starting the podcast with a laptop and a headset, and a teleprompter program, and audacity crashing on him all the time. To doing weekly live shows with no script, speaking to the issues of the day, and expanding on that, and producing more shows on to complement The Spann Report, and hopefully grow even more. After we get the warm and fuzzies out of the way, it’s time to get back to the business of what we do. And we hop In The News, as the partial government continues, government employees are working without being paid. And TSA screeners are calling in sick to work because of it. Ellen DeGeneres is catching heat for supporting Kevin Hart, and lobbying to get him to host the Oscars. Michigan Representative, Rashida Tlaib is under fire for referring to Donald Trump as a MFer. And an assaulted McDonald’s worker finally speaks out about the fight that she had with a customer over a straw that went viral. Then we’re off to Blue Blazes, as it seems that Madonna may have been a bit unhappy with her backside, but were injections really the answer? People are really trying to make re-usable toilet paper a thing. Yes REALLY. Kevin Spacey is in court to face charges that he groped a teenage bus boy, and did Erica Mena, and Safaree Samuels secretly get married already? And Birdman, and Toni Braxton called it quits on their engagement. We should all be able to breath again now that that craziness is over. Then it’s time for Proud To Be An American, where we find one of those folks we hoped we left behind in 2018, a Black Republican getting on national TV to suggest that those on public assistance aren’t looking for jobs anymore, they’re looking for porn. And a Manhattan judge has just ruled that it’s perfectly legal to throw Trump supporters out of bars. But is this the right thing to do? And of course, we wrap up the show with our AssHat & Champ of The Week announcements. Soo much to get into and cover, and that’s exactly what we’ll be doing on episode 234 of The Spann Report!

(Episode 217) “It’s Been A Long Time”

On episode 217 of #TSRP Spann is back after a much needed break, and getting his podcast chakras in order. We start the show with Spann reflecting a little bit about his time away from the mic, and some of the things he learned about himself while he was away, but then we get right into the silliness as Spann has a few Random Thoughts to get off of his mind. We hop In The News and reflect a bit on the life of The Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin, and what she meant not only to music, but to the city of Detroit, and a crazy revelation in how Spann found out about how the Queen of Soul, got that name. Voter suppression is rearing it’s ugly head again, this time in Georgia, as Republicans in the state seek to shut down as many as nine polling places in a majority black county leading up to the mid term elections this coming November. And Donald Trump finds himself surrounded by convicted felons as his former campaign manager, Paul Manafort was just found guilty of 8 counts of fraud. Trump’s former personal attorney, Michael Cohen has also decided to flip and plead guilty to the Feds for 8 counts campaign finance violations, and says he did so at the direction of Donald Trump. 8 obviously isn’t Trump’s lucky number. Then it’s on to Blue Blazes, as apparently you can get your Viagra fix on Detroit without a prescription, and you’ll never guess where you can get it. R. Kelly is being sued by property managers in the Atlanta area for destroying two rental properties to the tune of over $200,000 worth of damage. And Bill Cosby thinks that having to register as a sex offender will “damage his reputation.” It’s too late for that one there buddy. And in Proud To Be An American, Alex Jones has been banned of most of the more popular social media websites. Is this an infringement on his free speech, or is this something that all of these platforms waiting far too long to do? In Clearwater FL, Michael Drejka, the man who invoked a “Stand Your Ground” defense after shooting a man in the chest over an argument over a parking spot was finally arrested and charged in the murder of Markeis McGlockton. Will this be a replay of what happened with Trayvon Martin, or will the video of the actual killing make a difference in this case? And as promised back when she was fired from her White House post, Omarosa Manigault-Newman is out peddling her new book about what she witnessed in the White House while working there. And in her press run, many people are contemplating whether or not black people will accept her back into the community after her dogged support of Donald Trump, will we? And of course, before we close the show, we’ve got our AssHat & Champ of The Week announcements. It’s been a long time indeed, and we got a lot to get into, but it’s good to be back and we’re doing it. So get posted up and enjoy the show this week on The Spann Report!

(Episode 212) “They Don’t Care About Me Bro!”

On episode 212 of #TSRP Spann celebrated Father’s Day and a birthday all in one weekend, and we’ll talk about whether or not the social media frenzy around who gets to celebrate Father’s Day and how has finally died down, or has Spann just chosen not to dwell on it anymore. (Could be a little bit of both.) And since it was a Spann birthday, we’ll reminisce on the year that was. A little bit anyway. We get off of that and head right into The News, as rapper XXXTentacion has been killed at the age of 20. We’ll talk about performative empathy, and the nuances of if it’s ever OK to speak ill of the dead, despite the kind of person they exhibited themselves to be while they were alive. Detroit Pistons player Reggie Bullock will be the first active NBA player to ride on Pride Parade float in support of the Transgender community as his own sister was a victim violence because she was Transgender. Andrea Kelly, the ex-wife of trashbag of R&B R. Kelly has revealed in a new interview that she too suffered abuse at the hands of the singer. And Donald Chump has ordered the Department of Defense, and the Pentagon to create another branch of the armed forces, and that branch is…. “THE SPACE FORCE” No seriously, this idiot wants a space force. And in Proud To Be An American, a waitress, and Air Force recruit not only lost her job, but lost her shot at the Air Force, after a video of her looking to “HUNT NIGGERS” went viral. And another black man has proclaimed he is “Off The Plantation Bro!” as he bashes BLM, the LGBTQIA community, and progressives in general while speaking at at Turning Point USA event in front of Candace Owens. We’ll break down the silliness that is this notion that progressivism is somehow inherently bad to the black community. Then it’s on to Blue Blazes, as Jerry Springer has FINALLY been canceled after nearly 30 years on the air. And a cheating husband got caught doing the do in the most bizarre way possible. And before we leave out for the night, we’ll be charitable on this Juneteenth 2018 and not have an AssHat of the Week, but we WILL be highlighting a Champ. All of that is coming and maybe a little bit more tonight on The Spann Report!
